In support to the Department of Education Memorandum No. 244, series 2011 declaring November as the Reading Month, Talomo Central Elementary School launched 'Adopt a sis/bro project' last November 21, 2011.
The program aims to help slow readers in Grades Two and Three to improve their reading skills before the end of the school year. Grade Five and Six pupils were assigned by Reading School Coordinator Gaudelene P. Ebacitas to be "little teachers" to their adopted schoolmate as brother or sister.
Heroes Park, school gym and under the trees around the school were jam packed every afternoon for this special tutorial class.
"I do hope that this move could be of great help in lessening the number of slow readers in our school," Principal Marilyn L. Marcelo said.
She was also happy upon hearing on the good feedback of the project
--that the adopted sis and bros were really excited waiting for their Kuyas and Ates after classes in the afternoon and that they were improving.
